Born in Toronto, in 1971, the son of a Doctor and a School Teacher, Ken grew up in an outdoor-oriented environment, where he acquired his fascination with the natural world.

He attended the University of Waterloo for Mechanical Engineering, and later for Fine Art - focussing on sculpture. In 1994, after university, Ken journeyed around Europe, finally settling in the UK and raising his son, Kieran, in Scotland.

He returned home to Canada in 2008, after nearly 14 years abroad, to live with his fiancee, Suzanne, and to be with his family.
