.......The curves of the base are suggestive of the feet of the goose running over water as it takes off into flight.

 

Flying Goose

It all started with some Spruce 2 x 4's. These were laminated together into a roughly shaped block.

This block was then cut into shape using a chainsaw for the body and a jig saw for the wings. (bottom left image)

The wings were then laminated onto the body and it was further shaped with an angle grinder. (top image & bottom right image)

A clay skin was then applied to the final wood piece, in order to capture the artist's construction marks and to apply some finer details (such as the beak). After skinning the model, a rubber mold and plastic support shell were made.

The final steps in the process of making a goose are pouring, staining and sealing the concrete.
